Yia Coffee Company is a café nestled on the lively Ewe Hai Street in Kuching, presenting itself as a quiet retreat amidst the area's cultural buzz. This spot blends a sense of local heritage with modern coffee culture, offering an approachable space for anyone looking to unwind with a carefully crafted cup.

The café’s atmosphere is a balanced mix of old-school charm and contemporary warmth. From the outside, it feels like one might be stepping into a traditional coffee shop, but inside, the seating options range from airy rattan chairs outside on the sidewalk to cozy, plant-filled corners that invite lingering. The interior is softly lit, creating a relaxed environment that encourages slow mornings or restful pauses during a downtown stroll.

Coffee here anchors the experience, emphasizing Sarawakian beans that give their brews a distinct local character. Regular visitors appreciate their Americano and Long Black as straightforward staples, while those seeking something a bit smoother often go for the oat milk lattes or iced coffees—both reflecting a modern twist on classic drinks. The quality and aroma draw both coffee aficionados and casual drinkers who want to enjoy a moment without the rush.

Yia Coffee Company tends to attract a diverse crowd—from locals stopping by for a morning fix or afternoon break, to visitors exploring the riverside cultural stretch. The outdoor seating makes it particularly pleasant during daylight hours, letting patrons watch the neighborhood life pulse by while nestled among greenery. Inside, gentle background music—sometimes from an old radio—adds to the easygoing vibe, making it a solid choice for solo visits, small meetups, or quiet catch-ups.

Though the menu includes some unique beverages like espresso banana milkshakes, the emphasis remains on straightforward, well-prepared coffee drinks that highlight the local beans. The availability of plant-based milk options and thoughtful complementary touches, like an almond cookie served with the matcha latte, hint at a café attentive to varied tastes without overcrowding its offerings.

Overall, Yia Coffee Company suits those who appreciate a café that respects its cultural roots while offering enough comfort and quality to spend some time unplugged from the bustle. It’s an inviting spot to pause during a walk along Carpenter and Ewe Hai streets, suitable any time the day calls for a welcoming cup of coffee and a quiet moment in Kuching’s busy heart.

What a pleasant surprise to stumble upon Sarawak coffee here. Wanted to try the espresso, avocado milk shake but somehow their avocado is not available. So I've tried the espresso banana milk shake instead, not too bad as I was really hoping to try the avocado version. A few nice seating area with lots of plants. It's lovely!

Quaint little cafe in the middle of this cultural street. From the outside it looks like an old school coffee shop. Once you step inside you will see that it's a nice mix of nostalgia and modern comforts. The result is a very cosy place for you to just chill and hang out with a cup of coffee. The seating arrangement is very good. You have some open air rattan chairs on the sidewalk outosde. Inside there are several small tables with comfy sofa chairs. And there's also a long wooden table that can accommodate larger groups of about 6 to 8 people. Layman's coffee rating: 4/5 Ordered iced cappuccino when I came today. It tastes good to me, but it did not stand out in any way. Digital nomad rating: 5/5 I love that they have a proper 2 person table at the far back corner, which also has a power outlet right next to it. If this table is not available, the long wooden table can also serve as a good solo laptop station for at least 6 people. Excellent place to get some work done especially since the environment is not too busy.

Along the bustling Ewe Hai Street in the heart of riverside Kuching is a calm, mildly lit, open-fronted yet muted space that the Yia Company and its warm-spoken tenders retail its proudly Sarawakian beans and serve its exceptional brews and pour-overs. Within this juxtapositious oasis lies a surprising array of seating for a decidedly cosy enclosure, though not surprising in the least is the taste and choice of subtle aesthetic that this space is materialised. Me personally, I make it a point to secure a secluded hour or two at Yia's on its quieter mornings, wherein only the radio jazz and masters' brewery is audible atop the faint whirring of Ewe Hai and the town markets beyond. It contemporarily mirrors the quan ca phe of Vietnam, the cha chaan teng of Hong Kong, or the kissaten of Japan, and of course the local kopitiam, while without the overpresence of a demographic lean or an aesthetic gimmick that so many others are at fault for. Frightfully few of such places exist in Malaysia, and Kuching no doubt ought to treasure the Yia it has.

The ambiance of this Cafe is impeccable! simply unlike any other shops in Kuching. The unique blend of coffee beans are undoubtedly the best representation of coffee pefection. If you want to experience a truely authentic taste of the best local coffee... this is the place. I'd highly recommend anyone who is looking for a place with great coffee made with fresh beans.

Small compound that carries so much serenity in its space. Ample seatings available. Beautiful quaint cafe to enjoy aromatic and house blend coffees. I had their almond coconut flower latte. It was fragrant and has an interesting note of sweetness.

Interestingly, in my many Kuching trips, I missed this cafe. Loved the fact that they feature a selection of local Sarawakian Liberia and some blends. They come form the highlands so they should be good and they really are. Black and iced on a hot day. Can't wait to try the lighter roast versions.
